Wildlife Center of Virginia Waynesboro, VA |
Always informative, Ed Clarke once again gave an informative and engaging presentation on the activities of the Center and of the environmental dangers presented by simple acts like throwing an apple core out of your car window. A highlight of the evening was the appearance of Justice, a bald eagle from the Center. |

Sant Ocean Hall |
The recently renovated Sant Ocean Hall at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is definitely worth a visit! 7 Club members and guests braved the cold walk from the Metro across the Mall and spent over two hours in this one hall. The exhibit was broken up into different sections - one was a geologic timeline that was really interesting as it showed both the diversity and the extinctions (the fossils were AMAZING!) They showed a megaladon jaw with teeth close to the same size as the teeth one of our members found offshore of Wilmington, North Carolina. Another part of the exhibit was broken up by zones of the water - surface vs twilight. Still another part was coral reefs, estuaries, artic, etc. The center had a preserved specimen of a squid that prior to preservation was 36 feet long. They also had a coelocanth and pup on loan from South Africa which were real interesting to see up close. Participants watched a brief History Channel movie involving the Alvin and deep ocean exploration. They also saw a really neat movie projected on a sphere so it was in 3-D. |
